Just start

I can find an endless number of excuses for why I can't start a given creative project. "Oh, I'm not very good at that yet," or "I don't have the tools I need," or even "I don't think anyone will care if I do this."

There are so many more, too. And they all tend to run through my mind almost immediately as I sit down to plan out my next thing. It's especially bad when I'm not working on a client project.

When I've got a client, I have a direction. I have a purpose. And that's enough for me to tamp down the imposter syndrome for long enough to push through and produce something I can be proud of. The issue is when I'm left to my own personal projects.

For artists, personal projects are supposed to be the pieces of freedom that we find in our work. Between working for clients, we can pull together our own ideas and build something unique, special to us. Except it seems, sometimes, that these are more stressful than just not doing anything at all.

I've got a newsletter with fun photos, updates, and projects from my desk to your inbox. I don't send too many emails, I promise.
